What the LEJF test actually is
LASD's Law Enforcement Job Family (LEJF) test is one written exam that serves five different LASD job titles at once: Security Assistant, Security Officer, Custody Assistant, Deputy Sheriff Trainee and Reserve Deputy Sheriff. It is the same 60-item, 90-minute, computer-administered test for all of them.
The guide names eight areas: reading comprehension, inductive reasoning, deductive reasoning, spelling, writing grammar, writing clarity, vocabulary and data interpretation. LASD does not publish how the 60 items split across those eight, what any of them is weighted, or what the passing score is — so no RankHigh page states any of those as a number or a percentage.
- No law or law-enforcement content — the guide states this is deliberate, since these are entry-level titles requiring no prior peace officer experience.
- No outside scores accepted — LASD tests its own applicants on its own instrument.
Where the written test sits in LASD's hiring process
LASD's own careers process page lists the written test first, followed by a Validated Physical Ability Test and then a Structured Interview. RankHigh prepares the written test only; the physical test and interview are separate, later stages this product does not cover.
If you do not pass, LASD's guide points to the job posting itself for the retake window rather than stating a fixed number of days — so check the specific posting you applied under.
