LASD Data Interpretation Practice
LASD's guide defines this as working with records and numbers presented in a table — the one section of the eight built around a data source instead of a passage.
What this section tests
You're shown a table of records or figures and asked a question that requires reading the right row and column, and sometimes a simple calculation across them — comparing, totaling, or finding a value that meets a stated condition.
Example (illustrative, not from the official test): a table lists shift logs by date and duty station; the question asks which station had the most entries logged on a single date. The skill is locating and comparing the right cells accurately under time pressure, not advanced math.
How to prepare
Practice reading tables quickly and correctly — identifying headers, matching rows to the right column, and double-checking which value a question is actually asking for before calculating anything.
