NYS Court Officer Clerical Checking and Record Keeping

Both abilities reward precision, but they are different tasks: Clerical Checking compares three nearly identical sets, while Court Record Keeping combines information from multiple tables.

Clerical Checking
Compare 3 sets of names, numbers, letters, or codes
Court Record Keeping
Combine and reorganize information from several tables

Clerical Checking is exact comparison

The official task presents three sets that look almost the same. Work field by field in a fixed direction, comparing short character groups rather than relying on the overall appearance. A transposed digit or one altered letter is enough to change the result.

Court Record Keeping is cross-reference work

The record-keeping task requires information from several sources displayed as different tables. Identify the connecting field first, follow the correct row into the next table, and then perform any requested classification or reorganization. Reading only one table cannot produce the answer OCA's task describes.

OCA publishes neither a separate weighting nor an item count for these abilities. Their inclusion is certain; their numerical share of the examination is not.
