Written Comprehension
Visitors are expected to be listed in advance by the room they are visiting. A visitor who is on the list and shows photographic identification is issued a numbered badge. A visitor who is not on the list may still be admitted, but only by the main office and only where identification is shown. Badges are surrendered on the way out.

What you have to take
Four New York exams, and this is the school safety one
School Safety Agents are employed by the NYPD and examined by DCAS. This is not the NYPD police officer examination, not the city correction officer examination, and not the New York State series used by county agencies. DCAS measures the same nine abilities for the police examination that it measures here, so the ability list will not tell the two apart — the job, the notice and the eligible list are what do.

Passing puts you on a ranked eligible list. Before appointment there is a qualifying physical test, a drug screening, a medical and psychological assessment, and an NYPD background check for Special Patrolman status. RankHigh prepares the written test and none of the rest — DCAS publishes no physical standards to train against, and this product does not pretend to cover them.

How this preparation is built
These are the automated checks every question goes through before it can be served. They are run over the whole bank, by software, every time it changes.
- Every question is original
- Every question carries an approval record
- Every answer is explained
- The bank is measured, not just proofread
How questions are checked
- Every question is original
- Each one is written for RankHigh. Nothing is taken from a real examination, a competitor's bank or a public question set, and every new batch is checked for duplicates against every other question in the catalog.
- Every question carries an approval record
- A question that has not been through these checks is not served at all. That is what this product serves, not what has been written.
- Every answer is explained
- All of them, not the hard ones. An explanation says why the keyed answer is right and what each of the other options gets wrong, so a question you got wrong is worth more to you than one you got right.
- The bank is measured, not just proofread
- Answer positions, answer lengths and repeated scenarios are measured across the whole bank against chance. Where a pattern would let somebody pick the answer from its shape instead of its content, the questions are repaired — because a pattern you can learn here is one that will not be there on the day.

Questions
Is this the same as the NYPD police officer exam?
No, and the ability list will not tell you apart from it. DCAS measures the same nine abilities for both examinations and defines them in the same words, which is exactly why candidates confuse them. They are separate examinations, taken by candidates for different jobs, producing separate eligible lists — and RankHigh keeps them as separate preparation products written for the work each one describes.
Is this the same as the NYC correction officer exam?
No. That examination measures eleven abilities — these nine plus number facility and mathematical reasoning — and it is for the Department of Correction rather than the School Safety Division. Different job, different notice, different list.
When can I take it?
DCAS runs this title on rolling exam numbers, each with its own filing period, so there is usually one open or one coming. That is unusual and it is the reason preparation here is not a race against a single date. Filing periods change every series, so check the current Notice of Examination at nyc.gov/dcas rather than any third-party summary — including this one.
How is the memory section tested?
The Notice of Examination defines memorization as remembering words, numbers, pictures and procedures. RankHigh's memory items work that way: the material is shown, the time runs out, and it cannot be reopened. DCAS does not publish how long candidates study, so the period used here is RankHigh's training design and is not presented as the examination's.
What score do I need?
The Notice of Examination states 70% to pass. Beyond that, appointment runs down a ranked eligible list, so the practical question is not whether you passed but where you rank — and that depends on who else took the examination.
Is this a subscription?
No. It is a single payment of $49. Nothing recurring, nothing to cancel, and no card kept on file for later.

How long do I have access?
Your access opens online as soon as payment clears — there is nothing to wait for in the post. Your one-time purchase includes 90 days of access from the time payment clears. No subscription. No automatic renewal. One payment, nothing recurring, nothing to cancel.
Does RankHigh guarantee a passing score?
No, and be careful with anyone who does. What this does is show you which areas are costing you points and give you focused practice on them. The work is still yours to do.
