Who can sit
The announcement restricts eligibility to DOCCS employees with three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS, or equivalent 55-b/55-c service as Correction Sergeant or Correction Sergeant (Spanish Language), with permanent appointment held continuously since a stated cutoff date.
Seniority and veterans' credit
After the written test is scored, seniority credit — one credit for each five-year period of service, excluding the first year — is added to a passing score, with wartime veterans' credit added on top of that. Neither figure is something preparation can move; both are arithmetic on your own service record.
