What you have to take

Where the written test sits in Torrance Police hiring

Torrance Police Department administers the Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) itself, so a candidate books and sits the test with Torrance Police Department. RankHigh's POST PELLETB package is the preparation for that written test, and it is fully online — you work through it in a web browser on a phone, tablet or computer. It is one product, and this page sells it — there is no Torrance Police edition and no Torrance Police question bank. Everything above this line is quoted from Torrance Police or its administrator, with the source and the date it was read. Everything in this section is RankHigh's own description of its product. RankHigh prepares the written test only. Any physical, oral, background, psychological or medical stage Torrance Police Department runs is its own, and nothing here trains it.

Official exam information

Verified exam details
What is specific to Torrance Police
Torrance publishes what the written test is actually worth: the PELLET-B carries a stated share of the examination score and the panel interview carries the rest, so a candidate can see exactly how much the T-score moves their standing rather than treating it as a pass mark.
The eligible list a successful candidate lands on runs for three months, which is a far shorter shelf life than the one-year lists other departments in this catalog publish, so timing an application matters more here than almost anywhere else.
Torrance sets its own re-test interval on top of the state rule: an applicant may test for this position once in a six-month period, while POST's own restriction is a thirty-day gap between sittings.
Its published passing mark is stated to one decimal place rather than as a whole number, so a candidate a fraction of a point short does not clear it.

How this preparation is built

These are the automated checks every question goes through before it can be served. They are run over the whole bank, by software, every time it changes.

  • Every question is original
  • Every question carries an approval record
  • Every answer is explained
  • The bank is measured, not just proofread
How questions are checked
Every question is original
Each one is written for RankHigh. Nothing is taken from a real examination, a competitor's bank or a public question set, and every new batch is checked for duplicates against every other question in the catalog.
Every question carries an approval record
A question that has not been through these checks is not served at all. That is what this product serves, not what has been written.
Every answer is explained
All of them, not the hard ones. An explanation says why the keyed answer is right and what each of the other options gets wrong, so a question you got wrong is worth more to you than one you got right.
The bank is measured, not just proofread
Answer positions, answer lengths and repeated scenarios are measured across the whole bank against chance. Where a pattern would let somebody pick the answer from its shape instead of its content, the questions are repaired — because a pattern you can learn here is one that will not be there on the day.

Questions

What score do I need to pass?

POST does not set one. It reports a T-score — mean 50, standard deviation 10 — and each department decides what it will accept. Published minimums at California agencies range from the low forties to the low fifties, so the honest answer is that it depends entirely on where you are applying. Check that department's own posting.

Is the CLOZE section still on the test?

No. POST removed the CLOZE reading comprehension sub-test effective 1 January 2025. The current battery has four sub-tests: Clarity, Spelling, Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension. Preparation that still teaches CLOZE is preparing you for a test that no longer exists.

Can I use my score at more than one department?

Usually, yes. POST puts no expiry on a score, and departments that administer the test must give you a letter showing your T-score. Another department may accept that letter if the score meets its own standard — though many set their own limit on how old it can be, commonly around a year. It is their decision, not POST's.

How soon can I retake it?

After 30 calendar days. You are eligible on the 31st day, and that applies even if you take the retest through a different agency. Testing sooner can invalidate the result.

Does RankHigh predict my T-score?

No, and be careful with anything that claims to. A T-score is calculated by POST against the live applicant population using secure forms. What you get here is your accuracy in each sub-test and which one is costing you the most, which is the part you can actually act on.

Is this a subscription?

No. It is a single payment of $49. Nothing recurring, nothing to cancel, and no card kept on file for later.

More questions (3)
How long do I have access?

Your access opens online as soon as payment clears — there is nothing to wait for in the post. Your one-time purchase includes 90 days of access from the time payment clears. No subscription. No automatic renewal. One payment, nothing recurring, nothing to cancel.

Are these real questions from the exam?

No, and nobody selling preparation has them. Every question here was written from the sub-test formats POST publishes, then checked before it shipped. They are built to work the way the real ones do, which is the honest version of what practice questions can be.

Does RankHigh guarantee a passing score?

No, and be careful with anyone who does. What this does is show you which areas are costing you points and give you focused practice on them. The work is still yours to do.
