What you have to take
Where the written test sits in Sacramento County Sheriff hiring
The agency accepts a T-score you have already earned elsewhere, so you can sit the battery once and send the result here rather than testing again.
The published minimum T-score is 42. This page prepares the written test only.
Sacramento County Sheriff's Office does not require you to test with them — it accepts a PELLETB T-score you already hold. The published figure is 42, described by the agency as a minimum T-score. RankHigh prepares the written test only. Any physical, oral, background, psychological or medical stage this agency runs is its own, and nothing here trains it.

Varies by agency
Most California agencies add their own physical ability test, oral interview, background investigation, psychological and medical evaluations. Which ones, and in what order, is set by the department rather than by POST.

How this preparation is built
These are the automated checks every question goes through before it can be served. They are run over the whole bank, by software, every time it changes.
- Every question is original
- Every question carries an approval record
- Every answer is explained
- The bank is measured, not just proofread
How questions are checked
- Every question is original
- Each one is written for RankHigh. Nothing is taken from a real examination, a competitor's bank or a public question set, and every new batch is checked for duplicates against every other question in the catalog.
- Every question carries an approval record
- A question that has not been through these checks is not served at all. That is what this product serves, not what has been written.
- Every answer is explained
- All of them, not the hard ones. An explanation says why the keyed answer is right and what each of the other options gets wrong, so a question you got wrong is worth more to you than one you got right.
- The bank is measured, not just proofread
- Answer positions, answer lengths and repeated scenarios are measured across the whole bank against chance. Where a pattern would let somebody pick the answer from its shape instead of its content, the questions are repaired — because a pattern you can learn here is one that will not be there on the day.

Questions
What score do I need to pass?
POST does not set one. It reports a T-score — mean 50, standard deviation 10 — and each department decides what it will accept. Published minimums at California agencies range from the low forties to the low fifties, so the honest answer is that it depends entirely on where you are applying. Check that department's own posting.
Is the CLOZE section still on the test?
No. POST removed the CLOZE reading comprehension sub-test effective 1 January 2025. The current battery has four sub-tests: Clarity, Spelling, Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension. Preparation that still teaches CLOZE is preparing you for a test that no longer exists.
Can I use my score at more than one department?
Usually, yes. POST puts no expiry on a score, and departments that administer the test must give you a letter showing your T-score. Another department may accept that letter if the score meets its own standard — though many set their own limit on how old it can be, commonly around a year. It is their decision, not POST's.
How soon can I retake it?
After 30 calendar days. You are eligible on the 31st day, and that applies even if you take the retest through a different agency. Testing sooner can invalidate the result.
Does RankHigh predict my T-score?
No, and be careful with anything that claims to. A T-score is calculated by POST against the live applicant population using secure forms. What you get here is your accuracy in each sub-test and which one is costing you the most, which is the part you can actually act on.
Is this a subscription?
No. It is a single payment of $49. Nothing recurring, nothing to cancel, and no card kept on file for later.
More questions (3)
How long do I have access?
Your access opens online as soon as payment clears — there is nothing to wait for in the post. Your one-time purchase includes 90 days of access from the time payment clears. No subscription. No automatic renewal. One payment, nothing recurring, nothing to cancel.
Are these real questions from the exam?
No, and nobody selling preparation has them. Every question here was written from the sub-test formats POST publishes, then checked before it shipped. They are built to work the way the real ones do, which is the honest version of what practice questions can be.
Does RankHigh guarantee a passing score?
No, and be careful with anyone who does. What this does is show you which areas are costing you points and give you focused practice on them. The work is still yours to do.
