The Logical Reasoning Test
120 minutes · computer adaptive · five options per question
A paragraph drawn from CBP or government material, which you must accept as true, followed by five conclusions. Either one of them validly follows and four do not, or four do and one does not — CBP publishes both phrasings. You cannot skip a question or go back to one you have answered, and there is no penalty for guessing.
Prepared in full by the modules below
The Candidate Experience Record
40 minutes · complete within 72 hours of CBP's email
A short online assessment about your own background and experience. CBP's own guidance is that “you also do not need to prepare beforehand to complete the questions”. RankHigh does not coach it — it is a background inventory rather than a test of skill, and there is nothing honest to practice.
Not prepared by RankHigh — CBP states no preparation is needed
The rest of the process
After the examination
Passing the entrance examination is one step. The announcement also lists a polygraph examination, a background investigation, a medical screening, a drug test and roughly six months at the Border Patrol Academy. None of that is prepared here, and this page is about the written examination only.

How this preparation is built
These are the automated checks every question goes through before it can be served. They are run over the whole bank, by software, every time it changes.
- Every question is original
- Every question carries an approval record
- Every answer is explained
- The bank is measured, not just proofread
How questions are checked
- Every question is original
- Each one is written for RankHigh. Nothing is taken from a real examination, a competitor's bank or a public question set, and every new batch is checked for duplicates against every other question in the catalog.
- Every question carries an approval record
- A question that has not been through these checks is not served at all. That is what this product serves, not what has been written.
- Every answer is explained
- All of them, not the hard ones. An explanation says why the keyed answer is right and what each of the other options gets wrong, so a question you got wrong is worth more to you than one you got right.
- The bank is measured, not just proofread
- Answer positions, answer lengths and repeated scenarios are measured across the whole bank against chance. Where a pattern would let somebody pick the answer from its shape instead of its content, the questions are repaired — because a pattern you can learn here is one that will not be there on the day.

Questions
Is RankHigh affiliated with CBP or DHS?
No. RankHigh is independent third-party preparation and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by U.S. Customs and Border Protection or the Department of Homeland Security. We name the examination because that is what it is called and because you need to know which test this prepares — not to suggest any connection. CBP's own study guide, lesson videos and practice tests come from CBP; this does not.
Does a higher score improve my chances?
CBP's entrance-exam guide does not establish how your vacancy uses scores. Check the current announcement for your vacancy; RankHigh does not infer a ranking rule from an expired posting.
What score do I need to pass?
CBP does not publish one, so neither do we. It is not in the preparation guide, on the careers page or in any job announcement. CBP confirms a threshold exists — its retest rule begins “if you do not obtain a passing score” — without saying what it is. You will find a figure of 70 on various prep sites; it has no official source that we can find, and we will not print a number CBP has not published.
Are RankHigh's practice tests the same as the real test?
No, and the reason is structural rather than a shortcoming. The real Logical Reasoning Test is a COMPUTER ADAPTIVE TEST: it chooses each question's difficulty from how you answered the previous ones, and CBP publishes no question count because an adaptive test does not have a fixed length. Nobody outside CBP can reproduce that. What we give you is 2 fixed-form practice tests of 35 questions in CBP's own published 120 minutes, which rehearses the item format, the pace and the discipline of not going back — and we describe them as RankHigh practice tests everywhere they appear.
Why pay for this when CBP's own materials are free?
Because they answer different questions, and you should use both. CBP publishes a preparation guide, a logical reasoning lesson with a knowledge check and a practice test with explanations — all of it authoritative and free. RankHigh adds repeatable, targeted practice, worked explanations, weak-area review and timed practice for the reasoning structures CBP publishes.
Do you prepare the Candidate Experience Record?
No, deliberately. It is a short assessment about your own background and experience, and CBP's guidance is that “you also do not need to prepare beforehand to complete the questions”. Coaching answers to a background inventory would be teaching you to describe a history you do not have, which is not something we will build.
More questions (4)
How soon after applying do I take it?
Quickly, which is the practical argument for preparing before you apply rather than after. CBP's own schedule gives you 72 hours from the test vendor's email to complete the Experience Record, and 14 days after that to complete the Logical Reasoning Test. CBP suggests allowing about four hours for the test itself. If you wait for the invitation to start preparing, you are preparing inside that window.
Is this a subscription?
No. It is a single payment of $49. Nothing recurring, nothing to cancel, and no card kept on file for later.
How long do I have access?
Your access opens online as soon as payment clears — there is nothing to wait for in the post. Your one-time purchase includes 90 days of access from the time payment clears. No subscription. No automatic renewal. One payment, nothing recurring, nothing to cancel.
Does RankHigh guarantee a passing score?
No, and be careful with anyone who does. What this does is show you which areas are costing you points and give you focused practice on them. The work is still yours to do.
