Language Fluency
Devon Achebe returned to their parked car in the afternoon. Devon noticed that the passenger window was broken. Looking more closely, Devon saw that the trunk lining had been pulled up. Devon then realized that a camera case was gone. Devon suspected that a man who had asked for directions twice that week was responsible. Devon reported the theft to the police.

What you have to take
One examination, many local lists
The Department of Civil Service writes this examination and local civil service agencies give it. That is why the subject areas are identical wherever you take it and almost everything else is not: filing periods, fees, residency rules and how long a list stays alive are all set locally. Prepare once for the test; check your own jurisdiction for everything around it.

The written examination
Seven subject areas published · 5 prepared here
Multiple-choice. The State's guide publishes seven subject areas: language fluency, information ordering and language sequencing, problem sensitivity and reasoning, selective attention, visualization, spatial orientation and situational judgment. RankHigh prepares the first four and spatial orientation, in the formats the guide describes. It does not prepare visualization, which matches photographs of faces, and it does not coach situational judgment, for which the State publishes no answer key.
Five of the seven subject areas — the other two are named above
Your jurisdiction's own stages
Varies by county and city
Local agencies add their own physical fitness test, medical and psychological evaluations, background investigation and residency requirements. Which ones, and in what order, is set locally rather than by the State.

How this preparation is built
These are the automated checks every question goes through before it can be served. They are run over the whole bank, by software, every time it changes.
- Every question is original
- Every question carries an approval record
- Every answer is explained
- The bank is measured, not just proofread
How questions are checked
- Every question is original
- Each one is written for RankHigh. Nothing is taken from a real examination, a competitor's bank or a public question set, and every new batch is checked for duplicates against every other question in the catalog.
- Every question carries an approval record
- A question that has not been through these checks is not served at all. That is what this product serves, not what has been written.
- Every answer is explained
- All of them, not the hard ones. An explanation says why the keyed answer is right and what each of the other options gets wrong, so a question you got wrong is worth more to you than one you got right.
- The bank is measured, not just proofread
- Answer positions, answer lengths and repeated scenarios are measured across the whole bank against chance. Where a pattern would let somebody pick the answer from its shape instead of its content, the questions are repaired — because a pattern you can learn here is one that will not be there on the day.

Questions
Is this the same exam as the NYPD test?
No, and it matters. New York City runs its own Police Officer examination through DCAS, on its own schedule, measuring nine cognitive abilities. This product prepares the New York STATE Entry-Level Police Officer Series used by county and municipal civil service agencies for Police Officer, Patrol Officer and Deputy Sheriff. Preparing one for the other is preparing the wrong test.
What score do I need to pass?
Your local civil service commission sets that, not the State. New York appoints from an eligible list ranked by score, so in practice the useful question is not whether you passed but where you sit on the list — and that depends on who else took the examination in your jurisdiction.
When is the next examination?
It depends entirely on where you are applying. Local agencies schedule independently: some counties run it twice a year, others far less often. Check your own county or city civil service agency for filing periods and dates — RankHigh does not publish a statewide date because there is not one.
Which parts of the examination does this not prepare?
Two of the seven subject areas. VISUALIZATION shows a photograph of a face and four altered photographs, and asks which is the same person by facial structure — RankHigh does not build that, because doing it honestly needs a library of real or synthetic faces and this platform has no such engine. SITUATIONAL JUDGMENT asks you to rate how effective each response to a workplace scenario would be, and the State publishes no answer key for it: its guide gives a correct answer for every other area's samples and none for that one, tells candidates the same rating can apply to more than one response, and leaves the area out of its own practice test. We will not invent a key the examiner has not published. Everything else the guide lists is prepared in the format it describes.
Does my score transfer to another county?
Generally no. The eligible list belongs to the jurisdiction that gave the examination, which is the main practical difference from a state like California. If you want to be considered in two places, you normally file and sit in both.
Is this a subscription?
No. It is a single payment of $49. Nothing recurring, nothing to cancel, and no card kept on file for later.

How long do I have access?
Your access opens online as soon as payment clears — there is nothing to wait for in the post. Your one-time purchase includes 90 days of access from the time payment clears. No subscription. No automatic renewal. One payment, nothing recurring, nothing to cancel.
Does RankHigh guarantee a passing score?
No, and be careful with anyone who does. What this does is show you which areas are costing you points and give you focused practice on them. The work is still yours to do.
