The Assessment Exercise on the Illinois State Police Sergeant process

The Assessment Exercise is worth 47.5% of your final score — the same weight as the written Job Knowledge Exam — and it is not a written test. RankHigh does not currently prepare it, and this page says exactly why rather than guessing at its format.

What the Board's own materials confirm

The Merit Board's promotional-process documents describe the Assessment Exercise as in-person, scored by assessors drawn from other state police agencies, and requiring candidates to answer questions verbally and demonstrate promotional suitability. The Board also states that mandatory candidate-orientation materials cover the exercise types that may be used, the rating criteria and scales assessors use, the dimensions candidates are rated on, and preparation recommendations — published freshly each cycle.

Why this product does not prepare it yet

Preparing a scored exercise honestly requires knowing what it actually rates candidates on — the specific dimensions and the scale behind them — not just that a judgment component exists. The current cycle's candidate-orientation materials, which would name that rubric, are posted to a login-gated portal rather than published for public reading, and the one archived copy located by search returns a dead link today.

RankHigh will not invent an Assessment Exercise format or a set of rating dimensions to sell against. When the current orientation materials are obtained and confirm a rubric specific enough to coach against, this page and this product will be updated to say so — and not before.

What this means for your preparation today

This product prepares the Job Knowledge Exam only — the other 47.5% of your score. Preparing for the Assessment Exercise today means using the Board's own current candidate-orientation materials directly, once posted for your cycle, and any internal guidance your own agency provides.
